Review by Mel Menzies on Amazon UK:

“What a great book! When I first suggested that we read it for the Book Club I lead, one of the members thought it looked somewhat ‘heavy-going’. On the contrary, when we met yesterday evening, we all felt it was an easy read, and with much to say to us about following Jesus. So much so that several people said they were going to re-read it, while I suggested that it would make an excellent project for home-group study. With short chapters, each followed by questions categorised as Personal, Local and Global, it is both challenging and nourishing.”

Holy Habits explores the nature and nurture of Christian Discipleship. Part one of the book comprises five chapters:

  1. The Adventure of Discipleship
  2. The Adventure Begins – an exploration of the call narratives in the four gospels
  3. The Aims of Discipleship
  4. Suffering and the Sacrificial Nature of Discipleship
  5. Signs and Wonders

Part two has a further thirteen chapters which reflect upon how disciples are formed through supportive relationships and by the habits Luke depicts in Acts 2.42-47.

  1.  Holy Habitats
  2. Introducing the Holy Habits
  3. Biblical teaching
  4. Fellowship

  7. Giving.
  8. Service

With questions for reflection and action, suggested additional biblical material to look at and ideas for further reading the book is ideal for both personal and small group usage. With a rich mix of biblical material and illustrative stories it provides a wealth of material for peaching series. There is also an extensive bibliography.
